Developmentally Disabled Individuals

I work as a CNA with the developmentally disabled. I really do love my job howevcr, I have reached my goals. I will never become anything better than what I am right now. I have alot of insight for people who have children with DD and would like to share just so I feel I have helped other people and feel accomplished. First thing I must say is that people who have DD you may not think they are very intelligent and to most people intelligence means book smart. What you don't realize DD individuals are very behaviorally smart. They can out wit the most intelligent people you know. DD people have more patience therefore they observe and watch other so called normal people and will figure out each normal person first before the normal person will figure out the DD person. For example: One of the DD ladies I care for figured out a staff person named Amy didn't like to hear about the night watch. As soon as Amy came threw the door the individual would say Amy, night watch Judy is on tonight. Amy would immediately get upset and the individual would have a smile on her face because Amy reacted just the way she wanted her to. This happened everyday.
